Originally posted at: http://whippedcream2.blogspot.com/201...Is a vow of revenge more powerful than the lure of one’s heart?Sienna had grown up in an emotionally cold home. Her mother gone, her father too busy, the only love she knew was that of her grandmother and brothers. She’d be the first to admit she was spoiled and never lacked for anything…material. But what good are worldly things when they’re merely given to veil dark secrets? A few hours before her birthday, Sienna’s whole life turns upside down. Suddenly, the scary things from nightmares and bad movies become real. The only person saving her from the clutches of evil is a man who is just as emotionally distant as her father, but hot as Hell. With her life in danger, her hormones in overdrive, and her mind on the brink of Crazy town, turning thirty promises to be a birthday to remember.Nash had made a promise: revenge on the man who murdered his beloved and ripped out his heart. He’d waited a long time for the opportunity to take from the Clementis what they’d taken from him. Now that he had Sienna in his clutches, it’d be nothing to snuff out her life. And yet, he felt the stirrings of emotions he’d thought long dead in his dark heart. She evoked feelings he didn’t want, desires he shouldn’t have. Suddenly, his simple plan for vengeance became complicated. How could he kill his life-mate?Reluctant Revenge was an exciting ride. The chemistry between the characters kept me enthralled, eager to see what happened next. Ms. James adds her own spin to the typical “vampire” character, calling them Strix. Her demons are sexy-as-hell-hot, and her creativity is refreshing and new. The book isn’t riddled with redundant sex. No, Ms. James adds enough heat to get your hormones going, but doesn’t flood the book with one sex scene after another. There were a few editing errors and point-of-view violations; but nothing distracting enough to take away from the story itself. Overall, I loved her tale and look forward to reading some more of her work. Perhaps there’s a story for Jesse or Austin? My piqued interest can only hope.If you’re looking for an exciting book packed full of paranormal creatures, sexy heroes, and feisty damsels in distress, then look no further, Reluctant Revenge promises to fulfill your need for demons, excitement, and steamy romance.

Not the best I've read but not totally horrible either. It could use some work on characters and story for it to be more well rounded. Its really over priced for less than 100 pages AND it wasn't that great. Clearly the author needs a little more work on her development on details. This story lacks a lot of detail like the other reviewer indicated. I read this because its part of a book challenge on my friends' list. This is definitely my genre it just fell a little short for me. It was complicated because the main characters it was a love/hate thing and in my opinion moved a smidge too fast and that probably because it was a shorter book and just not enough time so it felt rushed. I doubt I'll read anymore of her work for now.

Xandra did very well building a paranormal world I believed in. The story started well with loads of action but I didn't feel that immediate punch of attraction between Nash and Sienna when they met. I really wanted there to be more passion between the two of them. But then again, that's just my preference. The twist and turns in this story were intriguing and kept me entertained.Overall, this is a good first outing for a new author. I look forward to reading more of her work.

The book starts off with action and comes off as very intriguing. The suspense over what is going on is kind of fun at first, but quickly becomes somewhat frustrating. Over time, things honestly just got pretty confusing, and even though we do get some revelations, they’re not enough to completely alleviate that confusion. The characters were didn’t feel very well developed. Nash comes off as a pretty big jerk, so much so that he nearly gets Sienna killed, and Sienna is the constant damsel in distress type of heroine. Their connection, while they both noticed each other’s looks in the beginning, is based mostly on the blood bond they share making the chemistry feel artificial. The love scenes didn’t feel compelling enough to fully hold my attention and the emotional involvement in the relationship was more narrated than shown through interaction which made it feel shallow and forced. The ending of the book was very predictable, quick making it feel a tad anticlimactic, and abrupt. I thought there could definitely have been more than where the book leaves off. Ultimately it just didn’t strike me as a very captivating story with lovable characters, leaving me feeling fairly let down upon finishing it.

*This book was provided by the publisher/author to Nerd Girl Official for an honest review.Overall this book isn't bad it could use a little work on character and story development. It starts out fast paced and remains so throughout the book. The relationship between the main characters is a strange love hate one. I think it moves forward a little too quickly. If this book would've been a little longer with a little more detail I would have given it 5 stars. Although I gave it 3 stars it was a decent book and it was definitely a page turner.Note: Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official. CONTEST HERE: http://thetbrpile.weebly.com/1/post/2...It’s been a while since I enjoyed a story this much. I read it from start to finish in like an hour flat. Interesting characters, action, phenomenal sex, humor and a strong , yet, tortured hero. What more can you ask for? Especially, since this is all packed into sixty–two pages, you can squeeze this read into even the most hectic of schedules. This is my first time reading Ms. James, but it surely will not be my last. She has a way with details, making lore her own, and adding a dash of humor. I like a little laughter with my drama.

This was a fun and quick paranormal romance, with a good dose of excitement and suspense. An enemies to lovers story, I enjoyed the way the backstory was introduced along the way at just the right time to fill in the holes as needed.Demons, angels, vampires (sort of), and who knows how many other paranormal types just not met yet. The creatures were all a bit different than the traditional, which kept things interesting and fun. But, it was a bit rushed. As a novella, I didn't get the chance to feel the suspense build up like I wanted to and things resolved very quickly at the end.

An enjoyable read, an interesting paranormal world set-up - but I see there's more books as part of a series.Unfortunately, this one seemed to finish quite abruptly leaving lots of loose ends which disappointed me slightly, but I'm sure the next book would help with this.
