the moon out of reach Reviews
2.5 StarsI'm really not a fan of love triangles, or in this case, love squares, so keep this in mind as it colors my review. Here we have a case of Rooke loving Nan but he loves his art more so he marries an old maid with money so he can launch his career. Nan loves Peter but Peter is helplessly married to a woman who abandoned him. Roger loves Nan but Nan just wants a way out from the mess of her emotions, and little does she know that Roger is the controlling "Dragonwyk" type who will be obeyed as Lord and Master. And so we have love, duty, honor and goodbye, love, duty, honor and goodbye, love duty, honor and goodbye over and over again.Of course the moral to the tale is "all things come to those who wait- and do the honorable thing-" (which I in no way diss) but it doesn't make for a very pleasant story. Nor can one revel in the "ultimate sacrifice" that someone is willing to make just to hold to their honor. (Especially when we as a reader know it's unnecessary, undeserved or both, especially as things unfold.)So I've got mixed feelings. The writing is good but the story is frustrating. Is there a HEA? For some, yes. I can't spoil the story by telling more. The good news is it's free on public domain.
I nearly cried. I LOVE it! It drove me crazy and I'm still not over it!
