Remember falling in love with the romantic classic Jane Eyre? Have you been in search of a similar novel that will making your heart flutter and stop at the same time? Well your search is over because Jane By April Lindner will make you fall in love all over again, while keeping the you on your toes with an edgy mystery. Lindner’s Jane captivated me with a forbidden romance, a dark secret and a memorable lesson. After her parents death Jane Moore is forced to drop out of college and take up a job as a nanny. She ends up at the Thornfield estates of rockstar Nico Rathburn to look over his daughter Maddy. Jane reluctantly becomes drawn to brooding and charming Nico and begins to fall in love with him. Since Jane is modest and plain she feels hopeless that he’ll return her affection but her good nature soon captivates him. When they finally start a relationship a disturbing secret from Nico’s past becomes a test of their love for each other. When I first checked out Jane I put off reading it because I thought it wouldn’t be as good as the classic Jane Eyre. When I finally decided to start reading it I could not put it down. Lindner is very good at staying true to the Jane Eyre classic and in some ways makes the retold story more interesting. I absolutely adore Nico and Jane’s forbidden love story and how they come together with all the conflicts they face from Nico’s past and present relationships. I also like how Lindner incorporated a strong message of being true to yourself, despite the constant ridicule of her looks and personality Jane faced from her family and peers, she never let it bring her down. April Lindner’s Jane is a novel of mystery and romance. In fact, Jane is not merely inspired by Jane Eyre, it is a retelling. She weaves the 19th-century tale into an edgy, modern love story that revolves around secrets and their consequences. She creates a story that can stand alone as well-written and engaging for high school readers. This book has taught me to stay true to myself no matter the circumstances and that true love can pass any obstacle that threatens it. -- Morgan S.
3.5 starsI enjoyed this, but at times I felt it was a bit unrealistic.
So good! Like, a simplified version of Jane Eyre with the guy being a rock star. Jane Eyre is one of my all time favorite romances, so it made me happy.
4 .5 stars. Modern day re-telling of Jane Eyre. Follows closely to the original story. Fast read.
